First things first.... if we are your friends, then you can totally let us photograph your wedding. Also, if your friend is a professional photographer, then go ahead and hire them to do the job. This message is for the friend photographer that "takes some good photos" and you assume they can create some amazing photos for your wedding.
If you don't care what you are getting back for your wedding photos, then go ahead and hire the friend. You just don't know what quality you will be getting back from friend photographer.
This is your wedding day! This is the day you have dreamed about! You really want to trust someone that has never taken a wedding photo in their life to capture all the memories of that night?
We have been in the wedding business for a number of years and we have watched the "friend" vendor ruin an experience. I don't know how many photographers we have seen miss many details and didn't have the skill set to capture images in low light situations. Photographers all have to start somewhere, but a wedding photographer usually will start working as a second shooter.
If your friend really wants to take some photos, you can totally have them work under another photographer. You are hiring the main photographer and you can let them know that you are having your friend get a chance to get some experience. If they don't agree with that, then you find a photographer that does. You are the client here!
At the end of the day, the photographs and your spouse are one of the few things that last from that wedding day. That is what you pass from generation to generation. That is what your kids and grandkids will see! Make sure you have someone that can tell your story!
If you are interested in our work, we would love to talk to you more about your big day! Send us a message and we would love to talk to you. Follow our Instagram and Facebook pages.
